Keeping up

Perhaps it was the need to fulfill the responsibilities of a husband, a father, a son and a brother. My reasons to work outside the Philippines are probably the same as that of the hundreds of thousands of OFWs (or Overseas Filipino Workers) who are working in Saudi Arabia or Dubai or wherever a Pinoy can get an opportunity to earn more than that from home. If it was just the desire to fulfill the dream of becoming a successful builder, that resignation paper would have not reached the hands of a family friend, a channel of blessings for the clan and a factor to my chosen profession - my first company's second generation boss. Although it was difficult to make that decision, it was right.

My son got his needed operation after a contract in Saudi Arabia, and a 100 square meter lot was the fruit of the 2 year isolation. But there were still bills to pay, a proper education for the child will soon be an additional consideration, and the lot needs walls and a roof at least.

Dubai provided the chance to make ends meet, but it is filled with devourers that could consume the weak.

This blog is an account of a mid-age migrant worker who is trying to keep up with the joys, the sorrows, the thrills and the expenses of home, Dubai and beyond.

Icen's Hat

Icen got a hat last Friday, 29 aug2008. He saw this Indiana-jones-like hat from the store where we stopped at while we were on our way to our desert safari trip. He liked the hat a lot. He wore it everyday since. Will try to post the pic soon.

The Desert Experience

Desert Safari

We had our Desert Safari this afternoon along with Ate Cely, Ate Bel, Erwin & Abbie, Melisa, Jocs & Jon. It was Erwin's agent that brought us to the dessert. For 100 dhms compared to other agents, it's cheap... other agents will charge 150 to 200. The package included transport service from home to the dessert and back, sand bashing, a ride on a camel, henna tattooing, a belly dance show and buffet dinner. We started at around 5 pm and we got home at by 9pm. It was a lot of fun doing it that we wold love to do it again.
